French unions have called cross-sector strikes and street rallies for 19 January in an announcement made less than two hours after Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne unveiled deeply unpopular plans to reform the pension system.
The country’s eight main trade unions (CFDT, CGT, FO, CFE-CGC, CFTC, Unsa, Solidaires, FSU) are uniting for the first time in more than a decade in their appeal for a first major day of demonstrations.
