French police attacked while attempted to intercept small boat launch

  • Video footage has emerged showing migrants throwing objects at French police officers as they attempted to intercept a small boat launch on a beach in northern France.
  • The confrontation comes amid a more proactive push by French authorities following a joint UK-France agreement in April that deployed additional police units to northern beaches.
  • Official figures show Channel crossings so far this year have fallen to 15,897, representing a 43 per cent decline compared to the same period last year.
  • Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood praised the joint effort, saying that UK and French operations have prevented more than 47,000 small boat crossing attempts since the UK election.
  • French officials have rejected a Reform UK proposal to deploy the Royal Navy to transport migrants back to France or Belgium, calling it a violation of international law.
