The French government announced a fund of 500 million euros to encourage urban vegetation projects in an effort to tackle rising temperatures in towns and cities.
"The government is going to encourage the development of cool spaces in urban areas with strong support for local authorities as they adapt to the consequences of climate change," said government spokeswoman Olivia Gregoire.
