Demonstrations broke out after Emmanual Macron was re-elected Sunday night with 58.5 per cent of the votes.
Following his victory, Macron vowed to be a president “for all” in a victory speech after exit polls forecast his election win.
He said: “I know for a number of our compatriot that have chosen today the extreme right, the anger and disagreement that led them to vote for this project, must find a response.
“That is my responsibility and those who surround me.”
However, demonstrations broke out across Paris and Lyon following the La Republique candidate’s victory.
Teargas was used by police to break up the demonstrations as they charged at dozens of protesters gathered in Place de la République square in Paris.
