Redheads in Leeds will be able to shelter from the upcoming heatwave in one of the city's cinemas thanks to a special offer. Showcase Cinemas is giving away free tickets to anyone with red hair on Monday (July 18) and Tuesday (July 19) as temperatures rise.
The chain which has a venue on Gelderd Road has put together the offer to help red heads, who often have more issues in hot weather than others. It comes as the city is set to be covered by the Met Office's first ever red extreme heat warning between midnight on Monday and 11.59pm on Tuesday.
According to the Met Office, Britain could see temperatures nearing 40C, with the current record set at 38.7C in Cambridge back in 2019. In its forecast for Leeds, the Met Office says that the city will bask in temperatures of 36C on Tuesday.

All Showcase Cinema screens have air conditioning, so the company says it will be a good place for red heads - and anyone else - to keep cool over the two days. Conditions of the deal state that red heads can only get one free ticket and it cannot be used in conjunction with another offer.
On those dates, films being shown at the Leeds venue include Thor: Love and Thunder, Elvis, Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion. Family-friendly options include The Railway Children Return, Lightyear and Minions 2: The Rise of Gru.
Speaking about the offer, Mark Barlow - UK general manager for Showcase Cinemas - said: "Whilst the UK enjoys some much-needed sunny weather, we know how hard some people find the heat. That’s why to tackle the heatwave, we’re offering red heads free entry to our cinema screens this Monday and Tuesday, so they’ll be able to enjoy some of the amazing films on offer in the comfort of our air-conditioned cinema screens and ensure they stay protected from the sun."
As part of its weather warning, the Met Office says: "Exceptional, perhaps record-breaking, temperatures are likely on Monday, then again on Tuesday. Nights are also likely to be exceptionally warm for the UK, especially in urban areas.
"This is likely to lead to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure. Temperatures are expected to drop away from Wednesday onwards."
