ABERDEEN City Council has announced free night bus services over the new year to “help revellers get home from the city after the bells”.
Free night buses will operate on Hogmanay, Tuesday, December 31 to key destinations in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Funded from the bus lane enforcement revenue, Aberdeen City Council is paying First Bus to operate 10 routes from midnight on December 31, 2024, to 3 am on January 1, 2025.
“The existing weekend night bus services have proved popular. I am delighted the council has now been able to add free night buses on Hogmanay,” said Ian Yuill, Aberdeen City Council co-leader.
“So far thousands of people have used the free weekend night buses to travel to their homes in the city or Aberdeenshire.
“I hope as many people as possible take advantage of this free and safe transport home both for going out on Hogmanay and at weekends.”
Bus linking the city centre to Ellon, Dyce, Inverurie, Northfield, Kingswells, Westhill, Banchory, Kincorth and Stonehaven will be operating.
It includes buses N1, N61, N17, N9, N12, N23, N6, N201, N18, and N7.
Christian Allard, Aberdeen City Council co-leader, said: “More and more people are out enjoying the cafes, restaurants, and pubs in the city centre during the festive period and Hogmanay is always one of the busiest nights of the year.
“The Aberdeen City Council funding will help to support businesses by giving people another transport option for getting home safely on Hogmanay.”
