Liverpool’s Pier Head is set to welcome the return of Taste Ramadan, a free event launched to celebrate diversity in the city, next month.
The huge open-air Ramadan event at Liverpool’s waterfront is back by popular demand after launching for the first time in 2019. This year comedian Tez Ilyas, supported by local performers, will headline the event.
The event, from Liverpool Region Mosque Network, Liverpool Football Club Foundation and Liverpool City Council, will take place on Friday, April 8. Taste Ramadan is being co-designed and delivered by a youth steering group.

With the ethos ‘share food; share friendship’ the event will feature faith and community members and a whole host of local performers. Back in 2019, Taste Ramadan attracted 4,000 people and saw a joint pledge from all faith representatives affirming the common humanity of people to spread peace, friendship and solidarity against hate.
Speaking about this year’s theme and the programme for the event, Tawhid Islam, said “Taste Ramadan 2022 is around hope and building a sustainable future. We are delighted to be working with Amnesty International as a partner for the first time, as well as football clubs and charities who offer hope to so many people both across the city and being displaced around the world under tragic circumstances.
“The feedback from young people is that the protection of our environment is a huge issue where we need to do more and inspire others and celebrating the creative industries such as art and poetry. Finally, hope is about looking on the bright side and performance is a great way to do that and break down barriers; so as a city famous for our sense of humour, we’re excited Tez Ilyas is saving his biggest appearance in Liverpool for Taste Ramadan.”
