Free essential installation offered in order to avoid £5,000 fine

Landlords and tenants have been offered free installations in order to avoid breaking new laws.

Updated regulations for carbon monoxide detectors came into effect in the first week of October 2022. Landlords who fail to comply with the new rules could be fined up to £5,000.

The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Amendment) Regulations 2022 updates regulation requiring all relevant landlords to ensure at least one smoke alarm is equipped on each story of their homes. Additionally, a carbon monoxide alarm is required to be equipped in any room used as living accommodation where there is a fixed combustion appliance, such as gas heaters and boilers.
