Frazzled mum gets revenge on 'bored' kids over bank holiday by making them sad potato faces instead of smiley ones for dinner

A frustrated mum who was sick of her 'bored' kids over the bank holiday got her revenge by making them SAD potato faces instead of smiley ones for dinner.

Georgeanne Coates was making homemade potato smiley faces for her two children on Monday [May 8] who she was struggling to keep entertained during three days off school.

The 30-year-old decided to reflect how much they had been annoying her in her cooking by making sad faces rather than smiley ones for Ethan, 13, and Dylan, 11, and site manager partner Luke, 35.

The part time cleaner and Russian language student boiled and mashed some potatoes, coated them in oil and flour and poked two eye holes with a straw before carving an upside-down smile with a teaspoon and cooking them in the air fryer.

Georgeanne says she popped a plate of the sad faces down in front of them and crept off for some alone time, leaving Ethan and Dylan in stitches.

Georgeanne said: "The kids were bored, it was raining horribly and they were on their bikes coming and going and I needed to feed them quickly with something they could grab.

"I live with three boys and sometimes they push and push you and I needed to feed them. I did one smiley face and I don't know what made me decide that wasn't what I was going to do.

"Then I made a whole batch of what I call 'not smiley faces'. I thought it was way better because of the way the kids were acting. It was reflecting my mood at the time.

"I didn't openly tell them they were annoying me, they just knew. I just put them in front of them and was silent then shut the door behind me. They loved it.

"They laughed a lot and said they looked like they had different personalities."

Georgeanne shared a photo of her creation on social media where other parents said they could relate as their own children were struggling with boredom over the bank holiday weekend.

Georgeanne wrote: "When everyone you live with has been annoying you but you still need to feed them."

One commentor said: "My mum would have served them every meal."

Another said: "These need to be a thing."

A third joked: "Do we actually need to feed them though?"

Another added: "You tell them passive aggressively. Made me laugh as my day has been the same. Pass the packet!"

Georgeanne said: "It's nuts, it's gone way further than I thought. People were tagging their partners and saying they look really sad and they need to get them for their kids."

She says she'll likely stick to sad faces rather than buying smiley ones as they're a new family favourite.

Georgeanne said: "It's going to be a family request from now on. I don't think I'll make them the normal way round.

"I've bought the bags before but you don't normally get a lot in them. They're cheaper and you can make a bigger batch than they can buy. The sad faces tasted good, if I did them again, I'd put more salt and pepper in."
