Frasier star Kelsey Grammer buys a house in Portishead

Sightings of Kelsey Grammer around Bristol may soon start to become more frequent after the actor revealed that he and his wife are buying a house in Portishead. The star of the stage and screen, known for his iconic performances as Dr Frasier Crane in Cheers and Frasier, as well as the voice of Sideshow Bob in The Simpsons, often pops up in Portishead as his wife Kayte Walsh is from the coastal town.

Kelsey and his wife Kayte have been married since 2011 and share three children together. She grew up in Portishead and is the daughter of former Bristol City footballer Alan Walsh.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Grammer said: "I love the people in Portishead, and I love the time we spend there. It's a good spot. We've actually bought a house there. We've bought a little place we're going to be working on."

Asked if he might be around more frequently, Grammer replied: "Yeah, probably. We won't be taking up residence for a while, but yeah, we're pretty excited about it. The little view of Wales over the channel there, it's really nice."

Earlier this week, Portishead Indian restaurant Vilasa shared on social media that the actor had dined with them. On BBC Breakfast, Grammer was complimentary about the curry though he acknowledged he is more of a popadom fan.

He said: "It was lovely, it was very nice. My wife is an aficionado of Indian curries. I frankly just go for the poppadoms and the little sort of relish tray that come up in the beginning. That's what I like. A beer and order something else I usually box up and take home."

And it's not just local Indian restaurants he frequents. He said: "We go into Bristol a bit, we've been to San Carlo, the restaurant there."

Grammer is heading back to our screens thanks to Paramount+, with the forthcoming Frasier reboot in which he is set to be joined by Only Fools & Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst, who will be playing an old friend of the psychiatrist.

Grammer said: “We have the magnificent Nicholas Lyndhurst joining the cast. Nicholas and I met doing Man Of La Mancha about three years ago at the London Coliseum and fell in love basically. I adore him, he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever worked with, and I accuse him of being a bit of a sandbagger because you don’t see him coming, and all of a sudden, he’s getting all the laughs. He’s a very, very gifted man. We’re going to start rehearses in a couple of weeks.

“He’s playing an old friend. It suddenly occurred to me when we were putting the show together we’ve never really seen Frasier in a relationship where he has a great friend.”

Although the show is due to screen in July, Grammer said he hoped to see it air “a little earlier”. He described the reboot as being an opportunity for audiences to see Frasier as a man “who is still discovering himself”.
