Frank Warren makes 'desperate' claim in Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua fight update

Frank Warren has claimed that Anthony Joshua’s team are preventing a fight with Tyson Fury going ahead.

WBC heavyweight champion Fury recently shared on social media that a “draft contract” had been sent to AJ’s team. Conversations between Queensbury’s George Warren and Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn took place, with Fury’s camp proposing the same terms as previously discussed before contract negotiations fell through last year.

Hearn admitted that his confidence in reaching an agreement with Fury was “very thin”, while the ‘Gypsy King’ is looking for an opponent after failing to agree to a unification fight with Oleksandr Usyk. Asked about the negotiations on talkSPORT, Queensbury promoter Frank Warren stated that AJ’s team are against making the fight.

“Last week, a written proposal was sent to Matchroom for AJ to fight Tyson in September. Eddie Hearn came back and spoke to my son George, who said it will take a couple of days to see where they are with it,” Warren said.

“Couple of days went by and George met yesterday with AJ’s management company. They confirmed that AJ is fighting in Dubai in December, that is his preferred route. There is a space open in August but they basically do not want to do the fight.”

Warren has pinned the blame on Joshua’s team for twice failing to finalise a fight with Fury. The 71-year-old stated that terms were already agreed with Joshua before suggesting he was pulled out of the fight by Matchroom last year and that the promotion is similarly unwilling to accept a fight with Fury this summer.

“So the situation is, Tyson is desperate to make the fight happen, as he was against Usyk,” Warren continued. “But AJ has chosen not to take the fight and that is where we are at.

“I don’t know why AJ can’t fight in September and then go and fight (Deontay) Wilder in Dubai afterwards,” he added. “If AJ gets beat by Wilder in December, I don’t think (it will happen) because he’d have got beaten by a person Fury has beaten three times. This is the time to make the fight, this is what we should all be focusing on.”
