Frank Skinner today revealed there will be a new version of Three Lions for the 2022 World Cup – and it pays tribute to the Lionesses.
Comedian Frank, 65, said he recorded the England anthem for the Qatar tournament with co-writer Ian Broudie at the Lightning Seeds’ singer’s home studio.
And he told how the rewritten track begins by paying homage to the England women’s team’s victory in the European Championship in July.
Breaking into song on his Absolute Radio show, Skinner said: “I won’t say where it goes, but it begins like this... ‘Loving that Lionesses win’.
"And then it goes on from there to remember the failure as well as this great moment.
"We’re filming the video on Thursday.”
First released for the 1996 Euros, staged in England, and also known as Football’s Coming Home, the song has been updated ever since.
Skinner’s former Fantasy Football TV show co-host David Baddiel, 58, is expected to feature on the new version.
Soccer’s first winter World Cup starts on November 20, with England playing their first match against Iran the next day.
