Lampard’s VAR point proven right
Frank Lampard said at the weekend that he didn’t celebrate Conor Coady ’s disallowed goal in Saturday’s Merseyside Derby because he knew it wouldn't count.
Asked why, he joked: “We're Everton aren't we.” And while the Everton manager’s comment was clearly tongue-in-cheek, several incidents since his arrival at Goodison Park in January suggest there may be some ill-feeling underneath the wry smile.

The VAR offside call has come under scrutiny - as has the lack of red card for Virgil Van Dijk’s tackle on Amadou Onana - and both have joined the growing list of examples Lampard could’ve given where his side were on the wrong end of some controversial calls.
From Diego Carlos’ late challenge on Mason Holgate in the defeat at Aston Villa this season to the chaotic 3-2 defeat at home to Brentford last, in which the Blues ended up with nine men come the final whistle, the ECHO’s Joe Thomas has looked back at seven controversial decisions that prove Lampard right.
Everton get exciting glimpse of future
Frank Lampard will take plenty of optimism away from the last few weeks of football despite still looking for his first win of the season - not least the performances of Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson.
The pair arrived at Goodison Park in January with the tough task of replacing two of Everton’s best full-backs in recent memory - Lucas Digne and Seamus Coleman - but have adapted seamlessly to Lampard’s demands and have quickly become mainstays in this season’s team.
And both showed every ounce of their individual qualities in Saturday’s Merseyside derby, with Ukrainian international Mykolenko quietly going about pushing Mohamed Salah to the fringes of play while Patterson was aggressive and in the face of Luis Diaz.
Toffees boss Lampard was full of praise for both after the final whistle, citing their ability to switch from back-five to back-four and wing-back to full-back and adding that the young pair - Mykolenko is 23 while Patterson is just 20 - will only get better with experience.
