Frank Lampard looks set for a sensational return to Chelsea to take charge as interim manager until the end of the season.
The 44-year-old was sacked by Everton in January, as poor results made his position untenable with the club slipping towards a second successive relegation battle.
His managerial career began at Derby County, with a spell at Chelsea from 2019-2021 ahead of his arrival at Goodison Park.

And now Lampard, who made more than 600 appearances for the West London side in his playing days, is "close to an agreement" to return as caretaker after Graham Potter's departure.
There had been suggestions earlier this week in the national press that Chelsea were considering a temporary move for Lampard, and tonight The Athletic have claimed that a deal is close.
David Ornstein tweeted this evening: "Chelsea are close to appointing Frank Lampard as head coach on an interim basis until the end of this season. Proposed deal would see 44yo installed immediately, while exhaustive search for new permanent boss continues in weeks ahead".
Lampard left Everton having won 12, drawn eight and lost 24 of his 44 games in charge at the club, with a win percentage of 27.2%.
His successor Sean Dyche is attempting to steer the Blues away from danger, so far picking up three wins, three draws and three defeats in his nine matches at the helm.
Chelsea, who drew 0-0 at home to Liverpool on Tuesday night, are currently 11th in the top flight table. They will soon meet Real Madrid over two legs in the Champions League quarter-finals.
Lampard could also play a decisive role in the relegation picture, with Chelsea still to play Wolves (A), Bournemouth (A) and Nottingham Forest (H) in their final run of Premier League fixtures.
