Frank Lampard sent out perfect Everton message hidden at end of first interview

Everton fans had been waiting with bated breath throughout the weekend to see Frank Lampard finally unveiled as the club's manager.

The former Chelsea and Derby County boss has been a leading candidate throughout discussions following the departure of Rafael Benitez earlier in the month.

However, Sunday's news that the 43-year-old had agreed a deal with the Blues ramped up the excitement more and more - even if supporters did have to wait until early on Monday afternoon for final confirmation.

Soon after, his first interview as Everton manager dropped onto the club's official YouTube channel, and it certainly made for very interesting listening.

In under 10 minutes, Lampard managed to strike the exact tone that so many fans have desired. He's excited about the challenge, ambitious about the future, he has a plan on the pitch and he's fully aware of the current difficulties the squad are facing.

But, perhaps one of the most striking parts of his first interview was hidden towards the end.

The new boss remarked: "It's [bringing through young players] an important part of the job for me because I was that young player, a long time ago.

"I understand what it means to be a player coming through at the club - you're in the academy, you progress into the first team. What that means for the club and the fans.

"At Everton there is a history of bringing players through, there is a relation you see with the fans when they see a homegrown player come through.

"My job as manager is not to get too nostalgic about that, players need to earn that right to train with the first team. If I can integrate them and it does improve the team, the feeling of the squad - I'll certainly do that.

"That's something I have to focus on, a strong link with the academy - make sure the academy players know that if they perform they can find a pathway into the first team."

Of course, for many this won't come as a surprise.

Lampard has built something of a reputation through his time at previous clubs as someone who likes to blood young talent in the first team, and is certainly not scared of giving inexperienced talent an opportunity to impress.

Evertonians are largely very keen for that to be the case at Goodison Park once more but, on the flipside, everyone is aware of the precarious situation the club finds itself in thanks to a recent run of shocking form.

Sometimes, throwing youngsters into a side that is struggling for results is not the best for their development.

However, those academy players who have managed to graduate to the first team over the course of this term so far will no doubt have sat up and taken notice of these words from Lampard.

He has a track record of making multiple players in that same situation.

In fact, he was in the same boat himself when he broke through the ranks at West Ham United.

Anthony Gordon has been one of the side's standout performers in recent weeks despite the dreadful run Everton have been on, and really seems to have turned a huge corner in his progression to the first team.

His rise through the academy was swift and hugely impressive, but the winger has come on further leaps and bounds since particularly the beginning of December with an improved physicality and effectiveness.

Of course, Lewis Dobbin has to get a mention here too - as he's made his first steps into senior football throughout the campaign.

His signing of a new contract last week should have been seen as an important first step for the club to tie down their exciting youngsters, making sure there is a clear path into the first team.

With Lampard, it seems that could be a huge priority in the coming weeks and months.

While the new manager will clearly be judged immediately by his results on the pitch and how he sets up his side, it will certainly be worth keeping an eye on how he integrates youngsters for the foreseeable future.

Everton have an exciting selection in the academy, and perhaps fans might be seeing a little more of them in Premier League matches in the future.
