Frank Lampard makes blunt transfer window claim as Everton close in on more arrivals

Frank Lampard hopes that future transfer windows don't bleed into Premier League campaigns as Everton currently still chase potential incomings.

The Blues have played four matches so far in 2022/23 but still have important areas of the squad that need to be addressed. They have managed a League Cup win and a draw in the league in that time, losing their opening two matches of the term.

The final stages of a transfer window are always hectic in terms of potential incomings and outgoings and that is set to be the case again, with more arrivals being chased and interest still apparent from other sides in Everton's players. However, Lampard does not believe this should be happening so deep into a campaign.

He told his pre-Brentford press conference: "Well it is what it is, this job is consuming in many ways. We're very fortunate to have these jobs, I love doing what I do. You strive every day to improve the team and the squad and while the window's open that's just what you do.

"I hope the powers that be understand that this isn't the perfect way to do it, it's far too long into the season there's no doubt. We want to look at the season with an idea of balance to construct a squad to go from the start to the end.

"By the time the window shuts we're six games in, that's a lot of games. For me it doesn't feel right and I hope they get that right next time."

In particular, attacking options are being chased by Everton - with Neal Maupay reportedly set to be closing in on being announced as a new Blues player soon. Lampard knows that he has the money to make the additions he needs to the squad, but still wants to make sure that each arrival is the right fit for the club rather than rushing through the wrong player.

"Yes, I do. Things are relative, I'm not saying the number we've got, but it's an area we want to improve and we will improve it.

"The last thing that we should do is bring a player in on a whim or in a rush who's not going to improve the squad, now and generally. If there have been mistakes previously, we don't want to make those.

"We want to work together, joined up, to make sure we make the right decisions for the club in the right areas."
