Frank Lampard gives Everton fitness update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and two defenders

Everton manager Frank Lampard has confirmed Dominic Calvert-Lewin is back fit for Sunday’s home game against Manchester United. The Blues’ number nine hasn’t kicked a ball all season after picking up what Lampard described as a “freak injury” just days before the opening fixture of the campaign against Chelsea.

Lampard had hoped to have Calvert-Lewin available for the game against West Ham United on September 18 but was not included in the matchday squad and remained out for last weekend’s trip to Southampton when Premier League action resumed after the international break.

Lampard said: “Yes, he’s in contention. We’ll have to see how match-fit he is but in terms of the injury, he’s better.”

Asked how much of a bonus it was to have Calvert-Lewin back, the Blues boss said: “It’s a really good boost. Do I have to say that? He’s a really good player for us, he was pivotal in us staying in the league last year and at the moment we want to get him fit and playing regularly.”

Lampard also offered fitness updates on defensive pair Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate. He said: “They’re training with us, which is great.

“Yerry came in during the last couple of days and Mason came in today for part of training, they’re both working hard to get there. This weekend probably comes too early for both of them, definitely for Mason but we hope for a good week of training next week to bring them into contention from then on.”
