Frank Lampard gives Dominic Calvert-Lewin return date and explains Everton style evolution

Frank Lampard has confirmed that Dominic Calvert-Lewin should return to Everton training this week as the club look to continue an evolution of their style.

The Blues secured their fourth point of the Premier League season with a 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon in a hectic match which could have seen either side claim a victory. However, as with all of their matches so far this campaign, the hosts were without their lead striker.

Lampard believes that Calvert-Lewin should be back at Finch Farm with his teammates this week as he continues his recovery from injury, and thinks that getting the England international back to the peak of his powers could be crucial to Everton's fortunes this season.

He said: "Dominic is training next week, we hope the middle of next week and then we have good options up front at number nine, with Dominic flying? And Neil Maupay?

"Obviously Dominic is a big player for us here. I haven’t experienced him as much as I want since I’ve been here, but obviously I experienced one of the best days of my life when he headed that ball in last season, we understand what he can bring to the team.

"If we get him fit and firing, then our forward options look at lot stronger - naturally so because he is an England striker."

Everton might still be searching for their first victory of the Premier League season, but the mood around the club is high. Fans can see a new direction that the club are heading in with a rejuvenated style of play, and Lampard knows that can keep improving.

He highlighted the importance of recruitment to increase the quality of the squad in recent weeks, but knows that the hard work for his players is far from over.

The Blues manager added: “Yeah you could see what we are aiming for now, I think so. Probably compromise is the word for last season, compromising your ideas on what you see, and for me as a coach it was a great experience to try and find a way that I hadn’t been used to in my coaching career at Chelsea and Derby.

“That was a foundation of spirit and fight but for me to stay in the Premier League you need more than that. I think our recruitment was a big deal for that, we have brought in players who can receive the ball and play the ball through the midfield and be comfortable on the ball and make the right decisions.

"As much as you coach and train and talk about the tactics you want to play, you will always be in the hand of players and decisions they make on the pitch. I think a lot of the decisions we made today were a sign of us improving, against a really intense high pressing team - and it was the same against Leeds the other day - so we want to keep going in that direction.

"We are far from the finished article, we want to start having more possession, more control of games, and I think you saw the ability to do that, and it was good for the lads to feel that and it encourages them to keep working on that."
