Frank Lampard explains Anthony Gordon transfer decision after Chelsea make £60m 'offer'

Everton manager and ex-Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has claimed that he is hoping for a quick resolution to the transfer saga surrounding youngster Anthony Gordon this summer. It comes as the Blues continue their approach to sign the 21-year-old before the deadline.

With just one week remaining until then, there appears to be plenty of action left in west London to be sorted out. Six signings have been made so far, with three being immediate first-team options and the other half being promising youngsters with a view to being future stars.

Thomas Tuchel still has a jumbled squad on his hands though, with some unsure of their future, while there remains a need to strengthen. Discussing the latest on transfers, the German coach said after the thrashing away at Leeds: "I don't know. We need to wait. The transfer period is still open. It gets later and later, and we need to focus on what we have and what we can do."

While the outlook wasn't overly positive from the manager, it seems as though there are plenty of deals to be concluded. Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana was the subject of a third bid from the club - which was rejected - with the Frenchman training with the youth side after failing to show for training one day.

Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is also on the list, with a potential reunion with Tuchel on the cards after several talks. Then there's the case of Gordon, who is said to have been subject of a £60million offer from the Blues in the past day as interest in him ramps up.

The England youth international didn't feature in the Toffees' 1-0 win over League One Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup, though manager Lampard was still asked about the youngster. Speaking after the game, he said: "It is a football decision and a financial decision and it has to be right for everyone. Anthony is our player.

“He’s our player, everyone knows of Chelsea’s interest, we have a good relationship, ideally [find a quick resolution to the situation] or we carry on and he’s our player."

With not long left in the market to get deals over the line, the Blues may have to continue working late into the day to ensure that Gordon switches Goodison Park for Stamford Bridge.
