Frank Lampard has extended his stay with Coventry City through to 2029 after steering the club back to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years.
The former Chelsea, Everton and Derby County manager took over the Sky Blues in November 2024 annd narrowly missed out on promotion to the top flight in his debut season, but got the job done in his second, topping the Championship with a nine-point cushion to second-placed Ipswich Town.
With so many Premier League sides requiring new managers this summer, Lampard found himself at the centre of swirling speculation, with Crystal Palace tipped as a contender to sign him after missing out on Andoni Iraola. They have since brought in Frenchman Pierre Sage.
And Lampard’s future has now been put beyond doubt, with Coventry confirming he has agreed a new three-year contract.
“It’s a real honour to represent this club,” he said after signing. “After the incredible work of everybody to get promoted and win the Championship, it was important to enjoy the moment, and we certainly did as a city.
“Our job then as staff, and for the players of course, is to firstly recharge but also focus on what we want to do and what we need to for next season. There’s a lot of work to do on and off the pitch as a football club, so those things have been ongoing.”
Coventry have not played Premier League football since being relegated in 2001 alongside Bradford and Manchester City. They tallied 34 points in that campaign.
Lampard’s main target for the coming season will be to keep his side in the top flight. He will face Arsenal at the Emirates in the first match of his campaign.
His managerial experience in the Premier League amounts to two spells with Chelsea, one of which was as caretaker, and a year-long spell with Everton, where he twice dodged relegation.
