Frank Cottrell-Boyce 'in pain' after losing irreplaceable item

Liverpool-based screenwriter and children's author Frank Cottrell-Boyce caused a social media storm when he revealed he'd lost his wallet in the street.

He put up a post on his Twitter account to say he'd lost the wallet on Bold Street. But it wasn't the money he was bothered about - but an item of extreme sentimental value.

The dad-of-seven said: "I lost my wallet. Which would be nothing. Except. It had a lock of mum's hair in it. It turned an impossibly beautiful lunar grey just before she died. The fact that I can't replace is painful. If you find my wallet (Bold St) hand it into Co-Op bank please. Keep the money."

The post attracted thousands of likes and retweets - and also had a happy ending. Within two hours of it going up, Indian street food restaurant Bundobust, in Bold Street, said it had the missing wallet in its safe and they were waiting to reunite it with him.

The author posted afterwards: "Amazing News. The Lovely people of @BundobustLiv have found it!!! I'll be reunited with it this afternoon."

Frank, 62, was born in Rainhill and now lives in Crosby. His children's' fiction include sequels to Ian Fleming's children's classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car. He is also known for writing the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.

His novels include Millions, which started out as a screenplay for the film of the same title and his popular book The Astounding Broccoli Boy, while his television work includes episodes of Doctor Who, Coronation Street and Brookside. His latest children's book, Noah's Gold, is out this week.
