Francis Uzoho sends message to Manchester United star David de Gea after Newcastle draw

Omonia Nicosia goalkeeper Francis Uzoho described Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea as a 'legend' after the Spaniard made his 500th appearance for the Reds against Newcastle United on Sunday.

De Gea, who joined United from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid 11 years ago, reached the impressive milestone against the Magpies, becoming just the second goalkeeper in the Reds' history to make 500 appearances or more for the club. The Spaniard was presented with an engraved plate ahead of kick-off by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

De Gea was joined by teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in being honoured ahead of the stalemate with the Magpies getting under way. The latter was also presented with an engraved plate after scoring the 700th goal of his club career in the 2-1 win over Everton a little over a week ago.

Unsurprisingly, a plethora of messages flooded in for De Gea, all of which congratulated him on achieving such an impressive tally of appearances for the Reds. Among them was one from Omonia ace Uzoho, who produced an outstanding display in the Cypriot's slender 1-0 defeat to the Reds at Old Trafford in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Filling in for the injured Fabiano, the 23-year-old Nigerian international, who is a United fan, had the game of his life, producing a string of outstanding saves, right up until Scott McTominay finally found a way past him in the 93rd minute. It was a special performance from the shot-stopper, who requested a photograph with Erik ten Hag after the game.

And after De Gea took to Twitter to reflect on a memorable afternoon against Newcastle, Uzoho replied with a one-worded message, writing: "Legend," accompanied with a love heart emoji.

The Omonia shot-stopper made a real name for himself at Old Trafford, such was the impressiveness of his performance between the sticks.

On the defeat to United, Uzoho, donning a massive smile, said: "I am not disappointed because we had a good game, but we would have preferred to have got at least a point. It is a dream come true to play here. I have dreamt about it for a long, long time."
