The warning urges people to 'be careful', with vigilance stressed to those who 'practice activities that are sensitive to weather risks or near a shore or a watercourse'.

This weather is set to last until about 6am on Tuesday 24 May - however, the outlook for the rest of the week remains in the low 20s temperature-wise, with storms to return at the end of the month.

The news comes as holidaymakers in Spain are experiencing temperatures of almost 40C in a record-breaking May.
