The FPL Banger boys are back with their Fantasy Premier League tips for Week 17, selecting their top picks and best captain choice.
Welcome to a new series for the 2024/25 season, provided by Siva & Sam, the twisted minds behind the FPL Banger Podcast.
Alexander Isak and David Raya made our selection the last time out, but so did Brennan Johnson. Let’s see if we can do a little better this week.
FPL Banger’s Week 17 Tips
BEST CAPTAIN
Mohamed Salah (£13.4m) – Tottenham (A)
I would love to be less boring with captaincy and pick someone like Jorgen Strand Larsen or Alex Iwobi. However, Salah is the clear standout pick.
The most consistent asset in FPL travels to a Spurs side who concede goals for fun and just made it through a gruelling 4-3 midweek win over Manchester United, while Salah & co had the week off.
Not to mention that Spurs’ first choice/only choice at left back, Destiny Udogie, is out injured – Salah against Djed Spence feels like a mismatch for the ages.
TOP PICKS
David Raya (£5.6m) – Crystal Palace (A)
People might take a look at Arsenal conceding twice to Palace midweek in the EFL Cup and assume that Arsenal defence can be got at. But things are a whole lot different when William Saliba and Gabriel start.
I’m expecting a much more composed and controlled performance this time around at Selhurst Park from the Gunners with their regular central defensive partnership back in the XI.
Antonee Robinson (£4.8m) – Southampton (H)
I’ve been watching Antonee Robinson’s career with great interest. Nicknamed “Jedi”, this Star Wars fan has already notched 6 assists this season, and it only made sense for me to force him into my FPL team.
With Ait-Nouri picking up a needless red card last week, Robinson comes into GW17 as the perfect option to bring balance to our FPL teams. And points. Unlimited points. He is the chosen one. You must see it.
Bryan Mbeumo (£7.6m) – Nottingham Forest (H)
Have you ever had someone in your life who loved you completely, who did everything you wanted, and then for some silly reason you let them go?
That’s Bryan Mbeumo for me. I had him since GW1, watched him haul every other week, and then I sold him just because of some made-up red boxes on the FPL app.
In the meantime, Mbeumo has returned an average of 11 points over the last 2 gameweeks. And he’s back at home this week, where he has only blanked once all season. Forgive me Bryan, for doubting you. Now just give me my red arrow this week.
Alexander Isak (£8.7m) – Ipswich (A)
A few weeks ago I sold Alexander Isak in a fit of rage after he was substituted off with an injury against Crystal Palace. To be fair, Eddie Howe did give an interview in which he suggested that Isak might be out for some time, so of course I should have realised that meant he was perfectly fine.
Smash cut to last week, and I took the difficult decision to bring Isak back in against Leicester, and thankfully he didn’t disappoint, scoring 11 points in a thumping 4-0 win against last season’s Championship winners.
This week Isak travels to Portman Road to play the team that finished 2nd in the Championship last season. Ipswich have kept just 1 clean sheet all season, and that was against Brighton some 3 months ago. Let’s have another double-digit haul, Alex.
