NEW DELHI: Unlike on previous occasions, a friendly fight took place between Congress communication chief Jairam Ramesh and BJP information technology head Amit Malviya over Taiwan-based Foxconn withdrawing from India's semiconductor joint venture with Vedanta on July 10.
Soon after the news of the deal falling apart broke, Congress Rajya Sabha MP and general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a tweet on July 10, “So Foxconn-Vedanta is off. But Micron still seems to be on for semiconductor chip assembly, packaging and testing. Micron though is putting up just 30% of the $2.75 billion with 50% coming from the Centre and 20% from the Gujarat government. By any standards this appears to be a hugely hefty subsidy to an American company.”
