JAIPUR: The fourth pillar of democracy is under pressure as not allowed to work independently in the country, said chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday while speaking at the foundation ceremony of Haridev Joshi University of Journalism and Mass Communication (HJU).
Gehlot said for a healthy democracy, the media must play its role in a free and fair manner. He said, "Dissent and criticism have an important place in a democracy. Healthy criticism by the media is in public interest allows governments to introspect and improve their functioning."
