A collision north of Dunkeld reportedly involving four vehicles happened at lunchtime on Friday, September 16 leading to the A9 being closed both ways while emergency services attend.
Traffic Scotland live updates position the total road closure near The Hermitage, just north of Dunkeld.
It is not known yet if there have been any injuries.
At 2pm a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Emergency services are in attendance following a multi-vehicle crash on the A9 at Dunkeld, which was reported around 12.05pm on Friday, September 16.
“The road is currently closed.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) is at the scene of the accident.
SFRS said it received a call from the ambulance service at 12.09pm, advising of a four-vehicle incident on the A9.
Four fire crews are in attendance for rescue purposes. Three appliances and a heavy lifting unit have gone to assist.
With the motorway closed in both directions queues are building and drivers are advised to find other routes.
