Four things Leeds United fans can expect to 'definitely' happen before January window closes

Leeds United fans came into the January transfer window hopeful of the club bringing in reinforcements after the first half of the season saw their team struggle badly in terms of squad depth.

However, there are now just five days remaining in the transfer window and the Whites have yet to bring in a signing, except for Mateo Joseph Fernandez, a teenage striker signed for the U23 side.

Meanwhile, Cody Drameh has left the club on loan, despite making his Premier League debut earlier this season.

As the days pass and the hours and minutes tick by, here are four things Leeds fan can expect to happen between in the remainder of the window:

Brenden Aaronson pursuit will go to the wire

Leeds' number one target is Red Bull Salzburg's Brenden Aaronson and Victor Orta has submitted two bids for the American international. The second of those was said to have been for £20million and showed how much Leeds like the player, given that fee would put Aaronson straight in the top five of Salzburg's record sales.

However, thus far the Austrian club have resisted Leeds' advances. It seems if Marcelo Bielsa and Orta really want the player for the second half of the season, they will have to go in with a third bid and the transfer could go to the wire. It's further complicated by the fact that Aaronson is currently on international duty with the United States.

The fight to keep Summerville will continue

In recent days there have been growing rumours about the future of Crysencio Summerville.

Like Drameh, the winger made his Premier League debut with the club earlier this season but he is said to favour a loan in order to gain more consistent senior experience as - despite making his debut - he has played only 118 minutes in the Premier League.

Leeds would prefer to keep the Dutchman, particularly due to their troubles with injuries this season. However, as was shown in the Drameh situation, if a player pushes to leave, Bielsa won't want to keep them around. This could be one to watch.

Fans wanting business done

It's safe to say that there will be a feeling of disappointment amongst the fanbase if Leeds' only transfer business this month is the signing of a teenage striker and two players who have been required in Premier League squads being allowed to leave.

If that happens, it will be the 8th transfer window since Leeds last signed a central midfielder on a permanent deal. Up until it becomes clear it's impossible, Leeds fans will be wanting to see their club be active to help give their squad the boost needed to ensure Premier League status for another season.

If nothing happens in terms of incomings, expect the online meltdown to be a big one.

Teams around Leeds will strengthen

Whilst it's unclear what will happen at Elland Road in terms of incomings, it's certain that teams around Leeds will be working hard to ensure they have new signings.

Leeds are seven points clear of the relegation zone as it stands but they cannot forget about those teams below them. Newcastle United have already made additions in Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier and they are working hard to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon, as well as seeking defensive reinforcements. It's possible that they could pose a brand new threat to the teams above them after the window closes.

Meanwhile, Watford have already made a couple of singings of their own and may well add more now that Roy Hodgson has been appointed as manager in place of Claudio Ranieiri.
