Four things Harry Kane said on Jimmy Fallon Show including goal record claim

Tottenham striker and England captain Harry Kane made a special guest appearance on the Jimmy Fallon Show on Thursday night.

The Spurs forward spoke at length on a huge range of topics during an interview that ended in the two playing a quick game of mini table football, which Kane won 2-0 against Fallon.

Here is a round-up of what Kane discussed during the interview, which included a chat on the NFL and his dream to surpass Wayne Rooney's record and become England's all-time top goalscorer in this year's World Cup.

On Tom Brady inspiration

It is well known that Kane is a big fan of American Football and the NFL, with star quarterback Tom Brady being one of the biggest names in the sport. Kane admitted that during his time before Tottenham stardom, while out on loan, a documentary he watched about Brady inspired and helped him on his journey to becoming one of the best strikers in world football.

Kane said: "One thing that did inspire me growing up was actually a Tom Brady documentary. I was away at another club, on loan, and I kind of wasn't getting in the team and it was kind of that period, I was 18 years old and I was like 'if I can't play here, how can I play for my team Tottenham?'

"I came across this documentary on YouTube, I think it was called 'The Brady 6,' it was about how he got picked in the sixth round (of the NFL draft) and then become who became, one of the greatest sportsmen ever. It just gave me a real belief that it was possible for me to go on and kind of have that career. Thankfully, I was able to do that."

Harry Kane's good friend and NFL legend Tom Brady will be at Old Trafford today to watch the game (@thespursweb)

On NFL and whether he could make it

Kane was jokingly asked whether he would be capable of filling in if Brady's team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, or either the New York Giants or New York Jets were missing a kicker.

He backed his ability, with a video showing him scoring field goals from 50 yards during a Spurs pre-season tour to America. "I feel like I could," Kane replied. "I'd put myself up there for sure."

On the video, Kane added: "This was on pre-season with our team and I was doing something with the Giants. I started kicking some field goals and knocked a few in."

On training with the Marines

Ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Gareth Southgate took the England squad on a training camp with the Royal Marines. Speaking about it, Kane explained that the Three Lions' team bonding led to their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years.

"Before the last World Cup, our coach took us down to the Royal Marines and was like, 'Yeah, we're going to be here for a few days and get together and do some team bonding,'" Kane explained. "I loved it if I'm honest. I really enjoyed it. We turned up, they took our phones away, put us in the uniform, took us straight out to the middle of the forest.

"We learned how to put up the tents they sleep in and cook on the fire. We were all there with the Marines and were doing that. Slept over and we did some tactical training in the woods and then a three-mile hike at 5am the next morning.

"We did it all, we did all the training, I think they called it the sheep's dip where you go under the tunnel in the water and everything like that. It was really cool. We were grateful for that team bonding aspect. We were together for three days, getting to know them, them getting to know us. As a team, we were together. I think it really helped us in that World Cup."

On the 2022 World Cup and England's goal record

Kane is currently four goals away from becoming England's all-time leading goalscorer, with Wayne Rooney (53) the only player above him and 1966 World Cup winner Bobby Charlton (49) in joint-second. Asked about the record, Kane is hoping to match and overtake Rooney this year, with four Nations League fixtures in June.

"I'm excited. The last World Cup was really special," added Kane. "We got to the semi-final, which was the first semi-final we'd got to in like 30 years as a nation and the country was going pretty mad, but of course, we fell that one step short, so I'm really looking forward to this one.

"We have a great team. Really good players, really good coach. We've been building nicely to this World Cup and I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully I can try and break that goal record whilst we're there."
