Four seriously injured in two-vehicle crash which two air ambulance helicopters are attending

Four people have been seriously injured after a crash on the A470 in north Wales. The collision happened shortly before 4.50pm on Thursday afternoon between the villages of Dolwyddelan and Betws-y-Coed in Conwy.

A large emergency response has been sent to the scene, with officers from North Wales Police in attendance along with fire crews, three road ambulances and two air ambulance helicopters. To get the latest WalesOnline newsletters e-mailed to you directly for free, click here.

The A470 has been closed in both directions following the two-vehicle crash, and police have advised motorists to avoid the area because they expect the road to remain shut "for some time". A total of four people involved in the collision have sustained serious injuries, and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said on Thursday evening: "Please note that the A470 between Betws-y-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog is closed following a serious collision at Dolwyddelan. The road is likely to remain closed for some time so please avoid the area. Thanks in advance for your patience and understanding."

The force later supplied an update which said: "Four people have been seriously injured following a two vehicle collision between Dolwyddelan and Betws-y-Coed. Any witnesses are urged to contact us on 101 quoting incident number B071845."
