Four schoolchildren arrested as man fights for life after attack

Police have made four arrests in connection with an attack in Bootle that left a man fighting for his life.

Yesterday, the force confirmed a man was assaulted by a gang of young people in the early hours of Tuesday, July 12. Emergency services rushed to the scene on Stanley Road, near Bootle Strand, at around 1.15am, and took a man to hospital with serious injuries.

Police have now arrested an 11 year-old girl and three boys aged 13, 14, and 15 on suspicion of s18 grievous bodily harm with intent. A 26-year-old man previously arrested on suspicion of assault remains in custody.

The victim, a 55-year-old man, remains in hospital in a critical condition. A cordoned off scene was in place on Stanley Road, for most of yesterday, while officers continued their enquiries. The cordon covered a section of pavement between Stanley Road and Strand Road, a nearby bus stop and outside the Burger King.

Detective Chief Inspector Ben Dyer said: "We have now made a number of arrests but we are continuing to appeal for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact us. If you were driving through Stanley Road early yesterday morning and have dashcam footage of the incident or saw anything suspicious then please let us know. All information you hold could be vital to our enquiries."
