Four new covid deaths confirmed in Bristol region - latest infections breakdown

Four covid deaths have been recorded in the Bristol region in the past 24 hours, latest government data shows.

At the same time, nearly 1,600 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the region today (Wednesday, February 9) - a similar rise to yesterday.

The news comes as Boris Johnson announced earlier today that all remaining Covid-19 restrictions - including the legal requirement to self-isolate - will be lifted by the end of February.

There are few remaining Covid restrictions left, other than the requirement to self-isolate if you test positive for Covid or if you come into contact with someone who does and you're not fully vaccinated.

Johnson had previously announced his intention to repeal the measures on March 24, but it now looks this could happen on or around February 24.

Speaking in the commons, Johnson said: "It is my intention to return on the first day after the half-term recess to present our strategy for living with Covid.

"Provided the current encouraging trends in the data continue, it is my expectation that we will be able to end the last domestic restrictions, including the legal requirement to self-isolate if you test positive, a full month early."

The number of positive test results in each area of the Bristol region since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results recorded today in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 47,512 (+232)

  • Bristol: 134,898 (+684)

  • North Somerset: 51,299 (+268)
  • South Gloucestershire: 75,970 (+389)

The number of deaths recorded in each area of Bristol since the beginning of the pandemic is as follows, with new deaths within 28 days of a positive test in brackets:

  • Bath and North East Somerset: 289 (-)

  • Bristol: 659 (+1)
  • North Somerset: 410 (-)
  • South Gloucestershire: 436 (+3)
