KHARGONE : Police on Friday detained four people from Gujarat and questioned them about their motive for visiting violence-torn Khargone.
Ankit Jaiswal, commandant of 24 police battalion in Dhar, who is serving in Khargone, told TOI that on a tip off, four persons from Gujarat were detained while they were travelling in a car. The police action came during a four-hour curfew relaxation in the riot-hit city.
“They claim to have come to help the riot-affected people as volunteers,” he said, adding around Rs 1 lakh was found on them. “We are verifying their claims and antecedents by contacting locals and police in their native place. No objectionable material was found on them. No evidence has been found so far to link them to any banned organization,” Jaiswal said, in a chat with TOI.

Police carried out a flag march in the evening at Talab Chowk area. Senior officials interacted with eminent citizens asking them to ensure peace in the city that is recovering from riots on Ram Navami on April 10.
