After receiving harsh reviews from their fellow competitors on Channel 4's Four in a Bed Jane and Sharon, the owners of Plas Maenan Country House in Conwy confronted the winner about his tough criticism. Jane and Sharon were left very shocked when two out of their three guests said they would not want to stay at Plas Maenan Country House again.
In the results episode where Jane and Sharon, Gemma and Mark, who run Burton Constable Holiday Park in Yorkshire, Claire and Jessica, who run Derwent House Apartments in Scarborough, and Steven who runs The Crossing Inn in Cumbria found out who had won there were some tense conversations. Ultimately Steven won, he even became emotional when Gemma and Mark paid five pounds extra for their stay, however, he was very critical of Plas Maenan Country House.
He complained about the paint in the bathroom, saying it was peeling away, he said: "As a five-star property the standard of maintenance just needs a little bit of looking into". Although Jane agreed with this criticism, saying Steven was "absolutely right" and it was "not acceptable" she later added: "I do think he exaggerated slightly because I went straight in and had a look and it was a relatively small area".

Steven then called their breakfast eggs "slimy" and "snotty" and said he didn't think breakfast was up to a five-star standard. He said: "Breakfast is very important to me, it is key and if you are offering a five-star level it really needs to be perfect."
There was more disappointment when Steven underpaid Jane and Sharon by £45, the biggest underpayment of the episode. He said: "Your price is for a five-star hotel and with the issues I talked about in the bedrooms, they really do need addressing, and the quality of the breakfast. For me, you are a four-star probably."
Jane was not standing for this and hit back saying: "I'd challenge the four-star rating because we have been independently assessed and we have reached five stars." however this was not enough for Steven who said he would be standing by his opinion and Jane said: "and equally I'll stand by mine".
Speaking to the camera Jane said Steven was "arrogant". She said: "He came across quite arrogant as if he was the knowledge of all five-star hotels. I saw him in a different light today and it wasn't pleasant, to be honest."
Jane hinted she would not be keeping in touch with him. She said: "I think there are some people I'll stay more in touch with than others and it is nothing to do with the competition, it is to do with personalities and gelling with certain people."
Four in a Bed airs every weeknight at 5pm on Channel 4.
