Four Edinburgh restaurants compete to be crowned Scotland's best at national food awards

Four Edinburgh restaurants are in the running to be crowned the best in Scotland at a prestigious national awards ceremony.

The Food Awards Scotland, which aims to 'celebrate the best in the food industry; from the excellent restaurants, chefs and servers, to the specialists and suppliers', has just revealed its finalists for 2022, across a variety of different categories.

The black-tie ceremony will take place at The Marriott Hotel in Glasgow on September 19.

Organisers say: "Whether it is the places that you have had your lunch and dinner hundreds of times or new establishments that have just entered the industry, the Food Awards Scotland 2022 are an exclusive celebration of the masters that enhance the flavours in Scotland.

"The event will welcome top professionals of the country’s food sector that provide delicious dishes, the freshest of products and rich menus.

"It will also showcase food suppliers, servers and manufacturers that take our taste buds around the world while in the comfort of Scotland.

"The awards promise to be a memorable event in the food industry’s calendar, with a wide range of accolades ready to be presented to the most deserving professionals and establishments, including Restaurant of the Year, Best Italian Establishment, Bakery of the Year, Best World Cuisine and many more."

And shortlisted for the Restaurant of the Year prize for the South East Scotland region are four capital food spots which have made their mark on the city's hospitality scene in the last 12 months.

Michelin Star winner The Kitchin makes the list, while there's also a place for another regular award nominee, Aizle.

Meanwhile Stockbridge's casual fine dining restaurant Purslane has secured a nomination.

While another of Edinburgh's four finalists is the independently owned Wings Restaurant on Old Fishmarket Close, which has built a cult following for serving simply 'chicken, beer and rum'.

Six other eateries from across the region complete the list, which you can see in full here.

A spokesperson for The Food Awards Scotland said: “Scotland offers a wide range of places that serve world cuisines. The finalists were voted for by the public for providing authentic recipes and unique dishes to their diners, creating memorable experiences for both residents and visitors.

“Undoubtedly, there are some amazing specialists around the country, who know how to offer great service, delicious food and meet the expectations of their diners. These are the professionals that we aim to reward at The Food Awards Scotland 2022.

“We would like to wish all the finalists the best of luck and we can’t wait to welcome all our guests and celebrate the winners with them.”
