Four Dusan Vlahovic alternatives Arsenal could sign if Edu doesn't secure £63m transfer

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic this month, with many reports claiming he is the Gunners' top transfer target.

However, it seems as though hope could be fading in the race for the Serbian, with Serie A side Juventus reportedly seeing an offer accepted for the striker.

The 21-year-old has already proven to be an elite player in Italy and given the project currently being built at Arsenal, losing out on him may be seen as a blow.

Mikel Arteta may be forced to look elsewhere for a new striker, given their need for a new hitman up front.

The Spaniard is currently set to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah in the summer, with both forwards coming to the end of their contracts at the Emirates Stadium.

That would leave Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the only recognised senior striker at the club, though his future is far from certain as he is yet to play for the side since his disciplinary breach that cost him the captaincy.

It seems clear a striker for the future is next on the cards, and with Vlahovic seemingly out of the picture, football.london takes a look at a few options the Gunners could have for potential strikers.

Alexander Isak

Isak is another striker who has been linked with a move to Arsenal, but for good reason. The 22-year-old has cemented himself as a top striker for Real Sociedad, following a difficult spell at Borussia Dortmund in his early career.

The Swedish international is an expert at creating his own shooting opportunities and with his pace, he can be a problem for any backtracking defender.

His tall frame and intelligence means that he is clever in his combination play, something that would suit Arsenal’s technically gifted frontline.

However, despite his size, Isak is yet to master being a consistent aerial threat, which could be an issue if the side looks to hit the flanks and whip balls into the box.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Everton's Calvert-Lewin is another who has been linked with the Gunners, but what he brings that others may lack is proven Premier League experience.

His 43 league goals since his breakthrough from youth football has seen him earn senior England caps, and at 24-years-old he’s not yet at his peak.

His ability to dominate physically makes him a focal point for any side; add to that his hunger to win headers in the box and he can become a real threat.

There may be concerns over his recent injury worries though and add to that a hefty fee demanded by Everton and it could be a tough one to negotiate.

Luka Jovic

Jovic hasn’t quite had everything work out for him since his big move to Real Madrid, though his Eintracht Frankfurt days offer an insight of just how dominant he can be.

At 24-years-old, he still has plenty of room for growth. He is clinical with both feet, strong aerially and has a turn of pace that can threaten defences in behind.

The Serbian international can play as a lone striker or in a two, allowing for versatility when it comes to changing game situations, with his link play a particularly useful asset similar to that of Lacazette this season.

A mixture of minor injuries and the form of the talismanic Karim Benzema has made it tough for him in Madrid, but perhaps a move to London could find that spark yet again.

Darwin Nunez

A slightly different striker to the other three, Nunez is a master of disrupting defences and causing chaos.

The Benfica striker excels in using his athleticism to create problems for opposition, with his pure pace matched with physicality becoming an issue with anyone trying to mark him.

If he isolates a player one-on-one, he could expose a defender. If you bring a second man to help deal with him, it disrupts the defence and can create chances for other players.

That’s the dilemma in dealing with the 22-year-old.

His 15 goals in 16 appearances in the league speaks for itself, however he could improve on his link play and against low-blocks, like that of Burnley’s, he could have less impact than the others named above.
