The Indianapolis Colts were back on the practice field Thursday and not present for the second straight day were four of their starters.
Mo Alie-Cox (hip), Matt Gay (neck), Alec Pierce (concussion), and EJ Speed (knee) were all absent for the second day this week.
Alie-Cox popped up on the injury report last Friday and was listed as questionable heading into Denver, but he did play 23 snaps.
Pierce would suffer a concussion in the loss to Denver and entered protocols on Monday, where he still remains.
Speed played against Denver as well, but was added to the injury report on Wednesday of this week. This isn’t the first time Speed has been listed with a knee injury this season and he did miss the Colts’ Week 7 matchup against Miami with a knee injury–although we don’t know if he’s working through the same issue now.
Matt Gay is also a new addition to the injury report as well. He did miss the Colts’ season opener against Houston but that was with a hernia.
We are still a few days away from kickoff, but the Friday status for each of these players will be important. Not that it hasn’t happened where a player hasn’t practiced all week and then played on Sunday, but that’s not common either.
The Colts could be getting Jaylon Carlies back off IR this week to bolster the linebacker depth, while Drew Ogletree would see more playing time if Alie-Cox can’t go, and if without Pierce, AD Mitchell will likely be the X receiver opposite of Michael Pittman.
As of now, the Colts don’t have another kicker on the practice squad.
