Aurelio Mejia - (Met Police)

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following a triple stabbing outside a nightclub in Peckham.

Police were called to reports of a disturbance involving a group of people outside a venue in Ruby Street just before 4am on Monday.

Upon arrival, officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service found 26-year-old Aurelio Mejia, 26, outside LAXA Lounge.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, Mr Mejia was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Two other men were also found with injuries, one of whom remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

The other man, aged 24, was taken to hospital, where his condition was assessed as not life-threatening, and he has now been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Four further men, one aged 18 and three aged 24, were also arrested on Monday on suspicion of murder, and remain in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the Met's investigation, said: "This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time.

“We are aware of the concern that this will cause the local community and those in the area will notice an increased police presence throughout the day.

“This assault occurred outside a busy nightclub, and we’d encourage anyone who has any information, dashcam or mobile phone footage which could support the investigation to contact us."

A Met spokesperson added: “Residents may notice an increased police presence in the local area.

“Given the circumstances of this incident – which occurred outside a busy nightclub – the investigation team believe there may have been many relevant witnesses. We urge anyone who has any information, dashcam or mobile phone footage which could support the investigation to contact us."

Anyone with information or footage is asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 1033/6APR, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
