Four arrested after Sydney child abduction

The PolAir helicopter helped NSW Police track a four-year-old girl abducted from a Sydney property. (AAP)

Four people have been arrested after allegedly snatching a four-year-old girl from a Sydney street and going on the run with her for two hours.

Police were called after the child was taken from outside a property in Stanhope Gardens, in the city's northwest, about 12.30pm.

They were told the girl was outside the location with her dad when a Honda CRV stopped nearby, and an unknown man and woman got out.

The woman grabbed the girl and put her in the car while the man kept the girl's father distracted.

The vehicle then fled the scene.

Traffic patrol and PolAir were able to spot the vehicle travelling north on the M1 motorway before stopping it in the Newcastle suburb of Beresfield at about 2.20pm.

Two women - one of whom is known to the girl - and two men were arrested and taken to a local police station.

The girl was located in the vehicle uninjured, and police have made arrangements to reunite her with her father.
