Four arrested after man stabbed in Clapham KFC in machete attack

A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital after a knife attack on Clapham High Street on Monday evening.

A parade of shops on the high street were cordoned off by police following the incident at a KFC restaurant at around 8pm.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they were called to Clapham High Street following reports of an altercation involving weapons, with the London Air Ambulance also among the emergency response to the scene.

Medics treated the victim at the scene before he was taken by ambulance to a South London hospital.

Officers remained at the scene for hours, while locals and businesses in the area were asked to review CCTV footage and assist police with enquiries. .

Reports from witnesses suggested that three males allegedly got out of a car armed with machete-style knives before attacking the victim, with several people claiming the vehicle had been circling the High Street beforehand.

An image widely shared online appears to show the aftermath of the attack, with blood shown covering the floor near the counter of the restaurant, and bleed kits and tissues across the ground.

A police spokesperson told the Standard that the person stabbed was a man collecting his food order.

They added: “At 20:08hrs on Monday, 18 May, officers were called to reports of an altercation on Clapham High Street, Lambeth.

“Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance and located a 20-year-old man with stab wounds. He was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service, where his injuries were assessed as non-life threatening nor life-changing.

“Three men aged 19 and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. They remain in custody and police enquiries continue.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 7393/18MAY or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
