Residents on the South Coast are begging young drivers and school leavers to slow down after four 18-year-olds careered off a suburban street and into a house early Friday morning.
Emergency services were called to a home in Bellbird Drive, Malua Bay on the NSW South Coast at 2am after reports of a car crash.
The four young men were assisted by two nurses who lived nearby and were transferred to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the men was later airlifted to Canberra Hospital with a broken leg.
The owner of the home said he had been woken up to the house shaking from the impact.
"I looked out of the window and could see some dust rising and there was a car and there was some people, I could hear voices," George (last name withheld to protect privacy) said.
"It was definitely not something I was expecting."
The car had veered into a vacant block after navigating a turn before crashing through the fence of the home and hitting the steel foundations of the house.
Tyre marks at the scene of the accident indicated the car was close to hitting a large tree.
George said he believed the four teenagers were lucky to be alive.
"If they had hit the massive tree in the neighbouring block there, they most likely wouldn't have survived," he said.
He said while the incident was disappointing given he had just finished building the home after two years of COVID-related delays, he had been overwhelmed by support from the community.
"I'm very, very frustrated. I've just built the house [and] I was just trying to put the finishing touches to it and I've got to go back to try and chase how to get it all rectified," he said.
"The whole street seemed to come out to see if everyone, including myself, were okay."
"It's great to be in a caring community. I just wish it is respected by everyone."
Neighbours heard racing earlier in the night
Greg Donoghoe also lives on the street and rushed outside when he heard a huge bang last night.
He called the police after he was woken just after 1am to what he described as the sound of cars racing, and he heard the crash almost an hour later.
"There was a loud crash like sheet metal," he said.
South Coast police officers are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Authorities said of the four men in the car, two were from Canberra, one was a Moruya resident, and another was from Tuross Head.
