Created by Rebecca Hessel Cohen in 2013, LoveShackFancy has become a paragon of femininity, celebrating all things girly and coquette, yet elegant and sophisticated.
Never one to shy away from adding ribbons, bows and frills to every ensemble, Hessel Cohen has created a fairytale world for the girls and women who aren’t afraid to embrace their whimsical side.
From her home in Bridgehampton, Hessel Cohen set out to create a fashion and lifestyle brand that would pay homage to her own mother and the strength of womankind. Taking inspiration from vintage prairie styles and imbuing them with subtle modern touches that could subsequently elevate a piece from daywear to eveningwear, the brand’s story began with what the founder dubbed a “beach-to-ballroom halter dress.”
A decade later, LoveShackFancy has become so much more than a womenswear brand and has since expanded into the realm of home and lifestyle accessories, travel and even skiwear.
Its most recent endeavour has been a foray into the world of fragrance, launching a collection of signature scents named ‘Moondance’, ‘Forever In Love’ and ‘Bohème’ earlier this month in celebration of the brand’s tenth anniversary. Each of these scents contains varying floral blends from rose-heavy wanderlust to peony-infused joie de vivre. Though not currently available to buy in the UK, you can sign-up to be the first to know when you’ll be able to grab them.
The brand has also recently collaborated with high-street powerhouse Gap, launching a capsule collection of pieces which includes floral-adorned dresses, jeans and outwear for women, men, girls, boys and babies. We’re still thinking about that pink pinstripe shirt finished with a gorgeous floral appliqué.
We caught up with Rebecca Hessel Cohen to hear about what the founder, designer and businesswoman has been up to, and all of her very favourite things.
What have you been up to recently?
It’s been an incredible summer of celebrations and travels, and now we’re heading into the most exciting next few weeks filled with back to school, our NY Fashion Week show, and the release of LoveShackFancy Beauty which we’ll celebrate with the pinkest, most unbelievable fragrance launch party of all time!
What are your go-to accessories for completing an outfit?
Sky-high platforms and a spritz of one of our new perfumes. I wear Bohème by day and Moondance by night - meant to be worn alone and layered to transition from day to night.
Where do you find inspiration?
As a female-founded and female-led brand, my mom has always been my biggest inspiration; she is my muse and the chicest woman I know. Her free-spirited take on fashion and living has inspired much of the LoveShackFancy brand and continues to do so. Beyond that, I’m inspired by the power of women, vintage finds, flowers, iconic imagery, my daughters, and beautiful places around the world, especially in Europe, specifically France—I’ll do anything to transport myself there.
What are your favourite items in your wardrobe at the moment?
These days, our latest Fall collection is sophisticated, elegant, and all I want to wear. Every style is more amazing than the last, especially the silk Victorian pieces, which come in cream and black.
My favourite maxi dress is the Elizabella slip dress adorned in a bouquet of remnant fabrics (it’s designed after the dress my mom wore to my wedding). As someone who hasn’t ever worn pants, I love our new pants; they’re so flattering! Our Torrez cropped leather jacket is the perfect transition piece worn over your shoulders, and our Adalie coat is my absolute favourite – you’ll wear it forever.
When it comes to dressing down, what are your favourite loungewear pieces?
Anyone who knows me knows I love a nightgown more than anything; I have a closet full of them. It’s all I wear at home.
What does your ideal capsule makeup collection consist of?
My beauty staples are bronzer, mascara, and perfume. But there’s no better beauty product than confidence.
What are the homeware essentials that make your house feel like a home?
I collect vintage plates and laces, and anytime I can set a table with our floral table linens, plates, and a bouquet of roses, I feel at home.
What are your travel must-haves?
Everything! I tend to overpack and often bring vintage pieces and laces with me on my travels to hang around the room and feel inspired.
What’s a must-have item for an evening of self-care?
Wearing our floral robe and eye masks with a candle lit and a dab of Moondance perfume. Maybe a small glass of wine.
What is your favourite LoveShackFancy collab that you’ve done?
We recently launched a dream collaboration with the Gap – which was the most successful Gap collaboration to date. It was the perfect mix of nostalgia and freshness that reimagined iconic Gap classics for all generations through the lens of LoveShackFancy.
