Cops were forced to pull over on the motorway to strap and hood an out-of-control football yob – after his team won.
Rangers fan John Boyd, from Prestwick, launched a tirade of sectarian abuse at officers who found him sozzled in the street “celebrating”.
Boyd was spotted clutching a bottle of Buckfast and pink Hooch, while draped in a Rangers flag, in Fulbar Road, Paisley, Renfrewshire, on April 18 last year.
Once arrested, Boyd, 25, rubbed his nose on PC Iain McLelland and while en route to the station, cops were forced to stop on the hard shoulder of the M8 as the lout started kicking the roof and window of the car.
Procurator fiscal depute David McDonald told Paisley Sheriff Court that police received a call around 4.20pm, regarding an “intoxicated male” in Fulbar Road.
Mr McDonald explained: “On arrival they traced the accused sitting on a footpath in possession of an open bottle of Buckfast tonic wine, a bottle of pink Hooch and a Rangers flag.
“Boyd was immediately hostile towards officers as they approached telling them to 'f**k off'.
“Boyd was warned of his conduct and the offence of the open alcohol bottle.
“He became increasingly aggressive and threatening officers stating, ‘I’ll punch your f*****g c***s in’ and ‘f**k yous repeatedly and stated, ‘where do you live’ and ‘I’ll f*****g find you'.”
Following this, Boyd was informed he was under arrest and made attempts to “pull away” from the police officers in a bid to resist arrest and avoid being handcuffed.
Mr McDonald added: “Once within the police vehicle, he continued shouting and swearing towards police officers stating, ‘yous are Fe***n b******s, I’m no a ‘ta****r, yous are f*****g ta*****s’ and repeatedly shouted, ‘Celtic are p****s, Fe****s are p****s’ and ‘yous are f*****g p****s'.
“While being take to Greenock police station, Boyd continued with his behaviour and rubbed his nose against the left arm of PC McLelland and started spitting repeatedly into the foot well of the vehicle.”
Court heard PC McLelland restrained out-of-control Boyd who was “kicking out at the roof and window of the police vehicle" which forced PC Levett who was driving, to pull over.
Mr McDonald explained: “PC Levett immediately pulled over on the hard shoulder of the M8 motorway and Boyd was removed and struggled violently with officers.
“A spit hood and fast straps were applied.
“Boyd continued to shout, sweat and make threats stating, ‘I wouldn’t spit on you, I’d shoot you in the eye’ and repeatedly made threats to shoot police officers and their families.”
Defence agent Colin McLaughlan told the court that Boyd, of Moor Park Crescent in Prestwick, had turned to alcohol to deal with “trauma” after being subject to a stabbing.
Mr McLaughlan added: “He’s had some difficulties. He says he is a Rangers fan and he hadn’t been at the football but was having some sort of celebrations.
“This was more of an excuse to turn to drink rather than celebrate anything.”
On sentencing, Sheriff Brian Mohan said: “You’re currently serving a sentence, so I’ll need to call for background reports.
“From you sitting drunk, happy that your team won, you’ve got yourself in a heck of a mess. I’ve got to look at this seriously no matter how ridiculous this incident sounds.”
Sheriff Mohan adjourned the diet for the preparation of reports until May 27.
