A driver had a lucky escape in Merthyr Tydfil on Thursday night (January 5) when he crashed on the A470 leading into the town.
Not only did the motorist avoid serious injury, but they also narrowly missed plummeting 80ft off the road bridge they were attempting to travel over at the time. The car, though, was a crumpled mess, while the barriers by the side of the road also took a battering, but luckily were strong enough to stop the vehicle from careering over the edge.
Officers from South Wales Police Roads Policing Unit tweeted: “Things could have been a lot worse for this driver, with an 80ft drop off the bridge. When the weather changes, you must change your driving to match the conditions.”
They added: “Currently at scene clearing the carriageway.”
