The Fortnite x Avengers event was a limited-time crossover released in April 2019 alongside Avengers: Endgame. It marked one of Epic Games’ earliest major pop-culture collaborations and helped define Fortnite’s future approach to large-scale crossover events, which the game has since become synonymous for.
This page provides a complete breakdown of when the event took place, what it included, and why it remains important in Fortnite’s history.

How the Fortnite x Avengers event was revealed
In the days leading up to the crossover, Epic Games teased the event with an image referencing the Avengers’ “Whatever it takes” slogan from Avengers: Endgame. Shortly after, PlayStation 4 users received a notification confirming the start and end times for the event.
At the time, this was one of the clearest confirmations that Fortnite would be directly tying in with a major Marvel film release. Which, back in 2019, was a significant move.
For context, Avengers: Infinity War released a year earlier in 2018, but the finale Avengers: Endgame was just about to release on April 26, 2019. The timing made the Fortnite crossover a smart marketing play, helping drive additional interest and hype ahead of the film’s release

What was included in the Fortnite x Avengers event?
The Limited Time mode (LTM) had two teams of 20 facing off against each other. Players were either on the side of Thanos or the Avengers on a Marvel-themed map.
The Avengers side were given maps to specialised Avenger-themed weapons:
- Iron Man’s Repulsors: Allowing players to hover
- Thor’s Stormbreaker: A throwing axe that would return and also gave players a leap and slam attack.
- Hawkeye’s Bow: Explosive arrows to shoot plus a grappling hook
- Captain America’s Shield: Block incoming fire and boosted running speed and jumps.
Why the Fortnite x Avengers event was important
The Fortnite x Avengers LTM was primarily gameplay-based and featured only a handful of skins such as Black Widow and Star-Lord. However, it was a major turning point for Epic Games.
It was proof of concept that movie tie-ins could work and that the game could act as a major marketing tool for future blockbuster releases. Since 2019, Fortnite has also expanded into TV shows, music and anime, to become even more entrenched in pop culture.
