The upcoming supernatural thriller Place of Ghosts, currently in production in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has announced its lead cast members. Forrest Goodluck, known for his role in The Revenant, along with Blake Alec Miranda, Glen Gould, and Brandon Oakes, have secured key roles in the film directed by Bretten Hannam.
The storyline of Place of Ghosts revolves around siblings Mise’l and Antle, who were once close as children but have grown apart in adulthood. Their lives take a dark turn when they are haunted by a malevolent spirit made of teeth and bones. To confront this entity, the siblings must reunite and venture into Skite’kmujuekati’k, also known as the Place of Ghosts, a mystical forest existing beyond time.
Hannam, a Two-Spirit L’nu filmmaker, describes the film as a journey of self-discovery and reconciliation for Mise’l and Antle. As they delve into the depths of the primordial forest, they confront their shared past and confront the dark forces that threaten to engulf them.
Bretten Hannam, known for his previous works Wildhood and North Mountain, brings a unique perspective to the thriller genre by casting Indigenous actors in non-traditional roles. The film also features Alec Miranda from S.W.A.T., Gould from Tulsa King, and Oakes from various acclaimed projects.
Place of Ghosts is written and directed by Hannam, with a production team that includes Marc Tetreault, Jason Levangie, Martin Katz, Diana Elbaum, and David Ragonig. The film is set to be released in Canada by VVS Films, with international distribution handled by Magnify.
