Ted Hankey has been charged with the sexual assault of a woman in September last year, Cheshire Constabulary said.
The former world darts champion, 54, has been charged in relation to an incident in Cheshire in September last year.
Hankey, of Wendover Grove, Berry Hill, will appear at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday April 6.
Cheshire Constabulary said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Cheshire Constabulary to charge Edward Hankey with the sexual assault of a woman.
“The CPS made the decision to charge the 54-year-old after reviewing a file of evidence from Cheshire Constabulary.”
Hankey is a two-time World Professional Darts champion.
The darts player qualified for the BDO World Championship in 1998. He secured wins in 2000 and 2009.
His nickname is The Count and he is recognised for wearing his signature cape.
He made an impression with his walk-on music, the 2002 song "Be on Your Way" by DJ Zany.
In December last year, Hankey bowed out of the World Seniors Darts Championship which is held in February.
