A former rugby league star has been reported missing in the USA and has not been seen for around two weeks.
Bryn Hargreaves made his name as a prop and second row for three different clubs in an eight-year spell as a Super League player.
In total he made 197 appearances across spells with Wigan Warriors, St Helens and Bradford Bulls before hanging up his boots in 2012, aged just 26.
He had enjoyed a strong season for the Bulls, but later explained he felt disillusioned with the sport and that he and fellow players were seen as "pieces of meat" and were "not treated with much respect".
Hargreaves, who grew up in Lancashire, has since move to the USA where he lives in West Virginia.
But authorities across the pond have revealed that the 36-year-old has been reported missing, and have issued a public appeal for the man who has not been seen in a fortnight.
In a statement on social media, the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office has asked people with any information which might lead to them discovering his whereabouts to come forward.
"On January 16, 2022, Monongalia County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified of a missing male. Bryn Hargreaves is 36 years of age, originally from England and resides in the Cheat Lake area of Morgantown, WV," the statement read.
"He was last seen approximately two weeks ago. He is described as a white male with brown hair, 6’2”, 220 pounds and has a tattoo of a family crest on his right arm.
"Anyone who has information can contact the Sheriff’s Department at 304-291-7260, or leave private messages on the Sheriff’s Department Facebook page."
A number of former team-mates have shared appeals to help find Hargreaves, including retired England international Paul Sculthorpe who wrote: "Please RT. He's a good fella Bryn... hopefully he is found safe and well."
Luke Mawson, media manager at Bradford Bulls, told LancsLive : "We are waiting for some good news to come through. We have shared this on our social media channel to try to increase the awareness of it.
"We hope he is found safe and well – fingers crossed we get some good news.
"He did many positive things for us; we are thinking about him and his family at this moment in time.
"He worked incredibly hard as part of his job – and put his body on the line and did so for this club, like everybody who plays for us. He was hard working, popular, and all of his former teammates across the word are thinking of him and hoping for a positive outcome now."
A spokesperson for St Helens added: "Everyone at the club is shocked and saddened to hear the news that Bryn has been reported missing.
"We have shared our support for him across social media and we urge anyone who knows anything to get in touch with the authorities. Bryn was a well-respected member of our squad when he played here and our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time."
