A former Lidl store site in Carmarthen has been acquired with plans to create a new social housing development.
The supermarket chain, represented by Cardiff-based property advisory firm Fletcher Morgan, has sold its former supermarket building to housing association Wales & West Housing.
Subject to planning approval the 1.1 acre site on Priory Street will be redeveloped to provide 47 new apartments with four separate buildings. They will provide accommodation with a focus on residents aged over 55. The scheme will also incorporate a central garden and a bowling green.
The vale of land acquisition has not been disclosed, but the completed scheme will have a gross development value in excess of £8m.
Subject to planning consent work on the project would start later this year with completion in 2023.
The value of the land acquisition has not been disclosed, but Fletcher Morgan were marketing the site with a guide price of £850,000.
It recently disposed of a Lidl site in Newport while it also marketing store sites in Chepstow, Gorseinon and Cross Hands, with the German supermarket chain focused on creating larger nearby replacement stores.

Cardiff headquartered Wales & West Housing is looking to build 2,500 new homes over the next five years.
It manages around 12,000 homes across 15 local authorities in Wales. These include more than 3,000 properties for older people as well as supported housing for people with a range of particular needs.
