A former Commanders offensive lineman is walking away from football at the age of 29.
Chase Roullier, a sixth-round selection in the 2017 NFL draft who spent six seasons as Washington’s center, is retiring from the NFL. The Wyoming product announced the move on Wednesday afternoon in an Instagram post.
“Two years ago, I would have never thought I’d be writing this right now,” Roullier wrote. “But in those two years, I have seen two major injuries, two invasive surgeries, two multi-month couch ridden times, two rehabilitation marathons, two tall mental hurdles to climb, and two of everything else in-between.”
Roullier played just 10 games in 2021 and ’22 combined before the Commanders cut him on May 5. He fractured his fibula on Nov. 2, 2021, in a game against the Broncos and tore his MCL on Sept. 18, 2022, versus the Lions; both were season-ending injuries.
From 2017-20, Roullier started 53 times and played in 59 games for Washington, helping the franchise make its most recent postseason appearance in ’20.
